MUMBAI, India, Nov. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202547096560 A) filed by Bioconsortia, Inc., Davis, U.S.A., on Oct. 7, for 'enhanced diazotrophic microorganisms for use in agriculture.'

Inventor(s) include Williams, Thomas; Malin, John; Zhu, Hong; Alford, Betsy; Reimche, Courtney; and Curtis, Damian.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 7, under issue no. 45/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The disclosure relates to genetically modified microorganisms, for the improvement of phenotypes of plants, for example nitrogen availability for leguminous plants. Included are novel strains of the microorganisms, microbial consortia, and agricultural compositions comprising the same. Furthermore, the disclosure teaches methods of utilizing the described microorganisms, microbial consortia, and agricultural compositions comprising the same, in methods for imparting beneficial properties to target plant species. In particular aspects, the disclosure provides methods of increasing desirable plant traits in agronomically important species, for example nitrogen fixation, utilization, regulation, uptake, acquisition, tolerance, and/or processing in plants."

The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 12, 2024, under International application No.PCT/US2024/019573.
