MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102881 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 25, 2025, for 'energy saving artificial intelligence framework for colon cancer detection on low power medical devices.'
Inventor(s) include Sakshi; and Dr. Manik Rakhra.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An energy-efficient AI system (100) for colon cancer detection on low-power medical devices comprises a data input module (102) receiving histopathology images and optional clinical data, a preprocessing module (104) performing normalization, stain augmentation, noise reduction, and class balancing, and a lightweight AI framework (106) incorporating pruning, quantization, and knowledge distillation. An explainability module generates Grad-CAM heatmaps to highlight suspicious regions, and an output module (108) provides classification results, confidence scores, visual explanations, and optional prognostic data. The system (100) operates on embedded devices such as Raspberry Pi, Jetson Nano, or ARM processors, enabling near real-time, portable, and clinically reliable colon cancer detection. Energy consumption is reduced by 60-70% compared to conventional models, providing sustainable and explainable diagnostics suitable for resource-limited healthcare settings."
