MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133984 A) filed by Dr. Mahalingam Collegeo Of Engineering And Technnology, Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 31, 2025, for 'energy-efficient mobile charging socket with automatic power control.'

Inventor(s) include S. Devilavanya.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention is pertaining to an intelligent electrical charging socket which is automatically controlling the supply of power to a connected mobile device. In order to keep track of the usage of the power from the charger, the system involves a current sensing module which is always engaged in monitoring the electrical current drawn by the charger. The system through real-time current values is capable of detecting different phases of the charging process including the active charging, near-completion, and fully charged states. Hence, charging is continually tracked to the smallest detail without the need for any hardware changes or software installation in the mobile device or charger. When it is found that the mobile device connected to the socket has reached the fully charged state, it is the control unit through the electronic switching mechanism that isolates or disconnects the power supply to the socket. The elimination of the standby power wastage is assured by the automated power cut-off thus lessening the heat generation and also overcharging of the device is prevented. The system is designed to be very flexible and can work with different charger types, power ratings, and mobile devices without the need for any user intervention. The invention is also equipped with an automatic power restoration device. After a new device is plugged in, or if charging is needed following a prior disconnection, the system will turn on the power supply to the socket. This operation confirms that the device can be used continuously without interruption, and at the same time, energy efficiency, safety, and device protection are preserved. Besides that, the control unit is capable of keeping records of power disconnections, power restorations, and any abnormal current situations, thus facilitating supervision and servicing. The intelligent auto-stop charging socket is a straightforward, inexpensive, and easily expandable solution that can be used in homes, offices, hostels, hotels, and charging stations accessible to the public. By charging mobile devices in a safe and environmentally friendly way, the invention contributes to the reduction of the overall energy consumption, prevention of device overheating, and prolonging ofthe battery and charger lifespan. Being of low cost and easy to implement, as well as being compatible with the existing electrical infrastructure, it is a suitable solution for a large number of users in the domestic as well as in the commercial sector."
