Intellectual Property India Publishes Patent Application for 'Encoding/Decoding Video Picture Data Using Picture Tiles' Filed by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co. Ltd.

MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517058627 A) filed by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co. Ltd., Beijing, on June 18, for 'encoding/decoding video picture data using picture tiles.'

Inventor(s) include Potetsianakis, Emmanouil; and Thomas, Emmanuel.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present application relates to encoding/decoding a video picture (PC1) with picture tiles (TL). A method for encoding the video picture comprises: spatially segmenting the video picture (PC1) into a plurality of picture tiles (TL) having no intra-frame dependency; writing, in a metadata structure, section metadata of at least one spatial section (SP), each spatial section comprising at least one picture tile (TL) of the video picture (PC1), the section metadata of each spatial section (SP) defining decoding properties of video picture data of said at least one picture tile (TL) of the spatial section (SP); and encoding video picture data of the at least one picture tile (TL) of said at least one spatial section (SP) according to the section metadata of the at least one spatial section."

The patent application was internationally filed on May 29, 2023, under International application No.PCT/CN2023/096954.
