MUMBAI, India, Sept. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202348057005 A) filed by Panasonic Intellectual Property Corporation Of America, Torrance, U.S.A., on Aug. 25, 2023, for 'encoder, decoder, encoding method, and decoding method.'

Inventor(s) include Li, Jing Ya; Lim, Chong Soon; Teo, Han Boon; Kuo, Che-Wei; Sun, Hai Wei; Abe, Kiyofumi; Nishi, Takahiro; Toma, Tadamasa; and Kato, Yusuke.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 5, under issue no. 36/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An encoder (100) includes circuitry (a1) and memory (a2) coupled to the circuitry (a1). In operation, the circuitry (a1) encodes second information indicating whether first information is present in a bitstream, the first information being regarding a subpicture which is a rectangular region in a picture, the picture including slices, and when the second information indicates that the first information is present in the bitstream, each of the slices is a rectangular slice and has a subpicture index indicating a subpicture to which the slice belongs. The subpicture includes two or more slices among the slices, the picture includes a plurality of subpictures, the plurality of subpictures are identical with the slices, and for each of the slices, the subpicture index of the slice has a same value as an index of the slice."

The patent application was internationally filed on Aug. 20, 2020, under International application No.PCT/JP2020/031437.
