MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202544089131 A) filed by Nokia Technologies Oy, Espoo, Finland, on Sept. 18, 2025, for 'enabling an intermediate session management function of a communication network to locally manage edge computing related information.'
Inventor(s) include Tezcan Cogalan; Shubhranshu Singh; Laurent Thiebaut; and Bruno Landais.
The application for the patent was published on April 10, under issue no. 15/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer program products enable an intermediate session management function of a communication network to locally manage edge computing related information. In an implementation, a network signal that comprises (i) a data network access identifier (DNAI) associated with an application configured for local offloading in a communication network and (ii) an indication that the DNAI is allowed for the local offloading is received from a session management function (SMF). Additionally, a set of candidate SMFs that support the DNAI and local configuration of traffic offloading on the DNAI is determined based on the indication, and a candidate SMF is selected from the set of candidate SMFs as an intermediate session management function (I-SMF) for the DNAI, where the candidate SMF is other than the SMF associated with the network signal."
