MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521085936 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on Sept. 10, 2025, for 'emptyroom: an automated classroom booking and availability platform.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Santosh Kumar Satapathy; Mr. Prayag Bhargav Thaker; and Mr. Aarav Parimal Desai.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The EmptyRoom project is an automated platform engineered to address the inefficiencies of manual classroom allocation by providing a robust digital solution for availability and booking. The system's architecture leverages a highly optimized backend, where a Python script is specifically designed to parse structured timetable data and identify unoccupied time slots. This processed data is then stored in a database uniquely configured to only persist these empty slots. This approach drastically reduces the database's footprint and minimizes query latency, ensuring a rapid response to user search requests. The platform's frontend provides a dynamic and intuitive user interface. The backend handles core business logic, including user authentication and booking request management. A key feature is the integrated booking system, which allows users to generate a request ticket for a specific slot, which is then routed to a dedicated admin panel. The admin panel provides administrators with tools to upload new timetables and manage all booking requests. Hosted on a local server, the entire system operates within the organization's network perimeter, ensuring that critical data remains secure and under institutional control, thus circumventing the security and privacy risks associated with third-party services."
