MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122417 A) filed by New Prince Shri Bhavani College Of Engineering And Technology; A. Jawahar; K. Siva; M. Vikram; and S. Hemalatha, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'embedded / iot based smart traffic cone for dynamic road safety.'

Inventor(s) include A. Jawahar; K. Siva; M. Vikram; and S. Hemalatha.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Traditional traffic cones serve as passive visual markers, offering limited effectiveness in low- visibility conditions such as heavy rain, fog or night time driving. To overcome these limitations this invention introduces an AI- Based Smart Traffic Cone and a transformative intelligent safety device engineered to actively monitor, respond and alert in real time. The system is builtaround an Arduino microcontroller, interfaced with an ultrasonic sensor to detect approaching vehicles and a rain sensor to assess environmental conditions. Based on live inputs, the microcontroller dynamically controls RGB LED for adaptive visual signaling and a Hluetooth enabled speaker for voice based driver alerts. These alerts are context sensitive varying in intensity and pattern according to vehicle speed, proximity and weather severity. Power is supplied via a solar panel and rechargeable battery ensuring uninterrupted, ecofriendly operation even in remote or off-grid locations. The system intelligence is further enhanced by AI Algorithms that analyze traffic density. This enables predictive safety responses such as escalating LED brightness or switching to multilingual voice alerts during high risk scenarios. Designed for deployment m highways, construction zones, school crossmg and accident prone areas, the smart cone offers a scalable, low maintenance solution for modern traffic management. Its modular architecture allows for future upgrades, including mesh networking, cloud sync and integration with smart city infrastructure. By combining embedded sensing, renewable energy and AI driven decision making, this invention redefined roadside satety as an active, autonomous and intelligent system capable of preventing accidents, enhancing driver awareness and supporting emergency response operations."
