MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541022785 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 13, 2025, for 'electrolyte for zinc-polyiodide redox flow batteries.'
Inventor(s) include Kothandaraman Ramanujam; Indrapal Singh Aidhen; and Rubi.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure pertains to advancements in energy storage technology, specifically in the field of redox flow batteries, and more particularly zinc-polyiodide redox flow batteries (ZIFBs). The present disclosure provides a co-solvent system for electrolytes employed in ZIFBs to address the limitations of conventional aqueous electrolytes. The co-solvent significantly increases volumetric capacity of the battery, improves utilization of active materials and mitigates side reactions such as zinc dendrite formation and iodine volatilization."
