MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007417 A) filed by Fishery Science College, Mangalore, Karnataka, on Jan. 26, for 'edible fish powder and pancakes made using edible fish powder.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The subject matter discloses an edible fish powder and pancakes made using edible fish powder, and methods 100, 200 of preparing fish powder, pancake formulation and instant pancake mix incorporating the edible fish powder derived from Nemipterus japonicus. The method 100 for preparing an edible fish powder comprises washing 102, blanching 104 in a saline solution, grinding 106 freeze-drying 108, and grinding 110 to obtain a shelf-stable powder having high protein, lipid, and mineral content with reduced fish odour. The fish powder exhibits a protein content of about 50-55% by weight, lipid content of about 10-15% by weight, ash content of about 12-18% by weight, and moisture content below 15% by weight. The powder is incorporated into a cereal-based pancake formulation or an instant pancake mix at defined proportions to enhance nutritional value while maintaining acceptable sensory attributes."
