MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202644061379 A) filed by Dr. Vatsala GA;. Dr Nagaraj C; Amogh S Y; Appireddy Sohini; and Dayananda Sagar Academy Of Technology And Management, Bangalore, Karnataka, on May 14, for 'econest: ai-iot enabled hybrid wet waste processing system with algae-driven biogas enhancement and smart composting.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Vatsala GA;. Dr Nagaraj C; Amogh S Y; Appireddy Sohini; and Dayananda Sagar Academy Technology.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a modular hybrid wet-waste management system integrating anaerobic digestion and aerobic composting under an AI-driven IoT framework. Cooked waste is processed in a floating dome anaerobic digester enhanced with Chlorella vulgaris algae for methane enrichment and carbon dioxide absorption. Generated biogas undergoes multi-stage filtration for moisture and hydrogen sulfide removal before utilization. Uncooked waste is processed separately in a thermally regulated rotating drum composting unit with controlled airflow and humidity. Real-time IoT monitoring combined with AI-based adaptive control optimizes biological conditions, improves methane yield, reduces odor emissions, and enhances compost quality. The invention provides a decentralized, efficient, and sustainable solution for organic waste conversion into renewable energy and biofertilizer."
