The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention introduces a sustainable, gravity-based multi-stage water purification system employing natural, biodegradable, plant-based filtration media for domestic and community-level applications. The system comprises a vertical housing unit incorporating sequential filtration layers, including but not limited to waste plant-based coir, plant-based biopolymeric material, activated carbon, and fine sand, positioned between inlet and outlet mesh layers. Water flows through these layers under gravity, enabling the eradication of suspended solids, heavy metals, organic matter, chemical impurities, turbidity, odours, and microbial contaminants. The arrangement eliminates the need for pressurized systems or electricity, offering a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and scalable solution adaptable to household or rural environments."
