According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Eco-Friendly Crayons This invention relates to eco-friendly crayons developed to address significant environmental degradation and health hazards associated with conventional petroleum-based art supplies. The core of the invention is the use of soy wax as a sustainable, non-toxic, and biodegradable base material derived from hydrogenated soybean oil, which is renewable and safe for children and skin contact, emitting no harmful fumes. This choice aligns with green chemistry principles, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and minimizing environmental impact. The system comprises soy wax as the main base material (70-90% by weight), plant-based and food-grade pigments such as turmeric and beetroot powder (5-15% by weight) as natural colorants eliminating the need for synthetic dyes and associated health risks, and optional coconut oil (5-15% by weight) to achieve optimal balance between softness for smooth application and firmness to prevent breakage. The production method is straightforward, involving melting soy wax at low temperatures using a double-boiler setup, integrating the natural colorants and optional ingredients, and pouring the mixture into reusable silicone molds for solidification. The present invention ensures a safe, effective, environmentally responsible, and sustainable alternative for children's art supplies that meets green chemistry principles and user demands for safety and ecological integrity."
