MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611000580 A) filed by Ct University, Ludhiana, Punjab, on Jan. 3, for 'eco-friendly bio-filter system utilizing moringa oleifera and jamun bark extracts for water purification.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Satvir Singh; Dr. Nitin Tandon; Dr. Vaneet Kumar; and Dr. Gagandeep Singh.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention uses plant-based materials from Syzygium cumini (Jamun) bark and Moringa oleifera seeds to create an environmentally friendly bio-filter system for purifying water. Turbidity, heavy metals, microbiological pollutants, and chemical pollutants can all be effectively removed by the system without the need of artificial chemicals or energy-intensive procedures. While Jamun bark extract gives adsorption of heavy metals, dyes, and phenolic-based antibacterial activity, Moringa seed extract offers natural flocculation, coagulation, and antimicrobial action. Through complementary chemical and biological processes, the dual-layer arrangement improves purifying efficiency. The filter is made to be a portable, inexpensive, and biodegradable solution that may be used for pre-treatment in homes, rural areas, emergency situations, and industrial settings. The invention ensures safety, cost, and environmental compatibility while promoting sustainable water treatment."
