According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a low-cost earthquake detection and early warning device designed to provide immediate alerts during seismic vibrations. Conventional earthquake monitoring systems generally rely on centralized seismic networks and advanced sensors, which may be expensive and may not provide immediate alerts within residential environments. The proposed invention provides a simple, decentralized electromechanical vibration detection mechanism based on the principle of inertia. The device comprises a conductive pendulum suspended within a stationary conductive enclosure forming a normally open electrical circuit. Under normal conditions, the pendulum remains stationary and does not contact the enclosure, thereby keeping the circuit open. When ground vibrations occur due to seismic activity, the inertial movement of the pendulum causes it to touch the conductive enclosure, thereby completing the electrical circuit. Once the circuit is completed, electrical current from a DC power supply activates an alert module comprising a buzzer and an LED indicator that provide audible and visual warning signals. The device therefore converts mechanical vibrations produced by seismic activity into an electrical signal that triggers an immediate alarm. The proposed system offers a simple, economical, and easily deployable earthquake alert solution suitable for homes, schools, and public buildings, thereby improving awareness and preparedness during seismic events."
