MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517050318 A) filed by Ceratizit Balzheim Gmbh & Co. Kg, Balzheim, Germany, on May 26, for 'drilling tool.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A drilling tool with two main cutting edges (2) with an arcuate course at least in sections, which main cutting edges are connected to one another via a chisel cutting edge (6), with a drill face side (4), a drill longitudinal axis (L), about which the drilling tool (1) can be rotated in a rotational direction (R), a drill tip (3) which lies on the drill longitudinal axis (L), two flutes (5) which run along the drill longitudinal axis (L), webs (7) which are formed between the flutes (5) and form a land (8) on the circumferential side, a point thinning portion (12) which is made in the drill face side (4), wherein, in relation to a frontal view of the drill face side (4), an opening angle (f) of a flute (5) is formed on the drill face side (4), which opening angle: in the case of a conical point grinding of the drill face side (4), is specified as defined between - an imaginary connection of the drill tip (3) to a cutting edge corner (9) of the main cutting edge (2), and - an imaginary connection of the drill tip (3) to a rear corner (10) which is formed on the land (8) at the transition of the flank (11) into the flute (5); in the case of a ground surface section of the drill face side (4) is specified as defined between - an imaginary connection of the drill tip (3) to a cutting edge corner (9) of the main cutting edge (2), and - a radially outwardly extending portion of a contour (14) of the point thinning portion (12), which opening angle (f) is between 85 and 95, and the point thinning portion (12) is made in the drill face side (4) in such a way that a normal spacing (NA) of an inner point of the point thinning portion (12) from an imaginary connection of the drill tip (3) to a cutting edge corner (9) is smaller than or equal to the normal spacing (NU) of a transition point (U) between the main cutting edge (2), adjoining the point thinning portion (12), and the chisel cutting edge (6) from the imaginary connection of the drill tip (3) to a cutting edge corner (9), wherein the point thinning portion (12) is attached to the transition point (U) and adjoins the adjacent main cutting edge (2) without a kink."
