MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641043754 A) filed by Visvaa J, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 6,for 'drainguard: an iot and ml based smart drainage monitoring and flood risk alert system.'

Inventor(s) include Visvaa J; Dinesh Prabu M; and Dr. P. Jeyanthi.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an Internet of Things (loT) and Machine Learning (ML) based system for monitoring drainage systems and detecting clogging and flood risk conditions. The system comprises an ultrasonic sensor configured to measure water level and a flow sensor configured to monitor water movement in drainage channels. The sensors are operatively connected to a microcontroller unit that processes the acquired data using a hybrid detection mechanism. The system identifies clogging conditions based on a combination of increasing water level and decreasing flow rate using rule-based logic. Further1 machine learning 111odels including Decision Trees and Logistic Regression are employed to predict abnormal drainage conditions and potential flood risks. The processed data is trans111itted to a cloud platfor111 for storage, analysis, and real-time monitoring. The invention enables early detection of drainage anomalies and supports proactive flood manage111ent in urban environments."
