MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123600 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 8, 2025, for 'double baloon catheter for labour induction.'

Inventor(s) include Anbuchelian Keerthana; Rajalekshmi; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a modified Foley catheter designed for mechanical induction of labor. Unlike traditional single-balloon catheters, this device features a double-balloon system-one balloon positioned above the internal cervical os and another below the external cervical os. The simultaneous inflation of both balloons exerts controlled and uniform pressure on the cervix, promoting effective cervical ripening and dilation. This modification enhances catheter stability, reduces the latency period before active labor onset, and improves overall safety and efficacy of labor induction. The invention provides a simple, cost-effective mechanical alternative for induction, particularly beneficial in cases where pharmacological methods are contraindicated or less desirable."
