MUMBAI, India, Aug. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517072849 A) filed by Pk Med, Paris, on July 31, for 'dosage form for intra-articular injection comprising colchicine for use in the treatment of a joint disease such as osteoarthritis.'

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 22, under issue no. 34/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition under the form of a sterile and injectable dosage form comprising a controlled release dosage form comprising colchicine for use in the treatment of a joint disease such as osteoarthritis, Erosive Hand Osteoarthritis and any other type of chondropathy and/or for use in the treatment of a pain-associated joint disease and/or for use in the protection of joint, bone and/or cartilage, by intra-articular injection into a joint of said pharmaceutical composition, wherein the time required to release 80% by weight of the colchicine is greater than one month and wherein the colchicine is present in a concentration ranging from 1 to 27.5 mg per ml of the sterile and injectable dosage form. It further relates to a pharmaceutical composition under the form of a sterile and injectable dosage form comprising a controlled release dosage form comprising colchicine having an adapted in vitro dissolution profile. It further relates to a formulation under the form of a powder and to a pharmaceutical composition under the form of a sterile and injectable dosage form suitable for an intra-articular injection comprising colchicine, under the form of microparticles comprising a polymeric matrix and to an associated kit or article of manufacture."
