MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133982 A) filed by Dr. Mahalingam College Of Engineering And Technology, Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 31, 2025, for 'dimpled micro-edm tool electrode with dual-part precision fixture for enhanced machining performance in micro-scale applications.'

Inventor(s) include R. Gunasekaran; Ramathirumurugan; and M. Saravanakumar.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention concerns a micro-electrical discharge machining tool electrode with engineered dimples on its surface, providing improved dielectric circulation, debris evacuation, and localized spark stability in micro-EDM. The present invention also relates to a specially designed dual-part fixture comprising a malt: part and a female part for securely holding and precisely aligning the dimple-textured micro-tool electrode. Such a male-female fixture assembly allows for precision positioning, reduced run-out, and controlled micro-movement of an electrode during machining, hence improving dimensional accuracy and process repeatability. The interaction between the dimpled tool electrode surface and the precision fixture system enables enhanced performam:es like material removal rate, reduction in tool wear, improvement in surface finish, and stability in machining. The proposed invention can be advantageously applied in the fabrication of micro-holes _and micro-channels in hard-to-cut and difficult-to-machine materials useful in biomedical and aerospace applications, where high precision and surface integrity have prime importance."
