MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631062861 A) filed by Siksha O Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, on May 18, for 'device for safe disposal and material-specific recycling of used endodontic instruments.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A device for safe disposal and material-specific recycling of used endodontic instruments comprising a housing 101 having an input hopper 102 equipped with at least one sensor for detecting insertion of used instruments, a sterilization chamber 103 positioned downstream includes a UV-C irradiation unit 104 and a plasma-based decontamination unit configured to sterilize instruments prior to mechanical processing, a rotary segmentation module 105 having a motor-driven cutting assembly 106 divides sterilized instruments into uniform metallic segments while preserving metallurgical integrity, a plastic segregation unit 107 comprising a vibratory separation means 108 separates non-metallic components including plastic handles and debris from metallic fragments, a hybrid alloy separation unit 109 includes a magnetic separation assembly to extract stainless steel fragments and a density-based separation assembly 111 to isolate nickel-titanium alloy fragments, a multi-bin output arrangement 112 collects segregated nickel-titanium fragments, stainless steel fragments, and non-metallic residues in separate containers for recycling."
