MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123566 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 8, 2025, for 'development and validation of the ishas: integrated sexual health assessment scale for culturally sensitive and inclusive screening of sexual dysfunctions in indian population.'

Inventor(s) include Naren Babul; Shyam Sundark; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Sexual health is a multidimensional aspect of overall well-being, yet its assessment in clinical settings, particularly in culturally diverse populations like India, remains fragmented and limited. The Integrated Sexual Health Assessment Scale (ISHAS) is a novel, structured, clinician-administered tool designed to comprehensively evaluate sexual, marital, and psychosocial health in adults. The scale comprises six modules: Demographics, Sexual History, Sexual Function (desire, arousal, orgasm, pain), Marital/Relationship, Psychosocial & Behavioral factors, and Scoring & Severity assessment. Each module includes items scored on a quantitative scale, enabling domain-specific evaluation and calculation of a total sexual health severity score, which classifies dysfunction as mild, moderate, or severe. The ISHAS is culturally sensitive, inclusive ofLGBTQ+ populations, and allows flexible administration via clinician interview or self-report, in both paper-based and digital formats. Optional submodules accommodate diverse relationship structures, partner assessment, and psychosocial stressors. The tool is designed to facilitate diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring of sexual health interventions, while maintaining patient confidentiality. Pilot lt:stiug and validation ensure reliability, acceptability, and adaptability for both 9linical and research applications. The ISHAS represents an integrated approach to sexual health assessment, addressing a critical gap in structured, culturally appropriate evaluation tools in the Indian context."
