MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122318 A) filed by Dr. N. G. P. Arts And Science College, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'development and standardization of caviar from ficus religiosa leaves and punica granatum fruit.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Jancy Rani D; Ms. Induja E; Dr. D. Sridevi; and Dr. Priya A.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Therapeutic herbs are abundant around the world. Herbal treatments supported by comprehensive laboratory research on the pharmacological characteristics of the bioactive substances and their effectiveness in treating various illnesses are gaining popularity worldwide. Plant extracts and their crude are the most significant sources of new drugs, and have been shown to cause promising results in the treatment of anti-inflammatory & anti-diabetic activity as well. Ficus religiosa and Punica granatum are wide range in pharmacological properties, including anticonvulsant, antidiabetic, analgesic, anti-oxidant, wound-healing & anti-inflammatory properties. Based on these scientific evidences, the study was conducted with the goal of developing and standardizing Ficus religiosa leaves and Punica granatum fruit. The results showed that the Ficus religiosa leaves and Punica granatum fruit extracts contain a high level of nutrient, phytonutrient, and antioxidant activity."
