MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124401 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'development and evaluation of an extended capacity coplin jar with integrated magnetic stirrer and anti- evaporation lid for enhanced histological staining efficiency.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. A. Priyanga; Dr. Sonti Sulochana; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Development and Evaluation of an Extended Capacity Coplin Jar with Integrated Magnetic Stirrer and Anti-Evaporation Lid for Enhanced Histological Staining Efficiency. The present invention relates to an improved Coplin jar apparatus for histological and cytological staining. The apparatus comprises an extended-capacity chamber configured to hold 15-30 microscope slides within a removable perforated slide cage that ensures uniform reagent circulation. A base formed of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) provides superior chemical resistance and durability, while also enabling magnetic coupling with an integrated stirring mechanism. A magnetic stir bar positioned beneath the slide cage, in cooperation with an external magnetic drive, maintains homogeneous reagent mixing and prevents sedimentation. The device further includes''a' sp'eci'ally _desighed anti-evaporation lid equipped with sealing features and an optional access port to minimize solvent loss during prolonged staining operations. This combination of features reduces reagent wastage, enhances staining uniformity, and improves workflow efficiency. The invention is adaptable for both manual and automated staining protocols, offering significant advancement over conventional Coplin jars."
