MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521124546 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Maharashtra, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'designing green roofs for enhanced flood mitigation.'

Inventor(s) include Arpita Mondal; Tushar Arunkumar Bose; and Pradip Pandurang Kalbar.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a method and an electronic device (200) for designing green roofs to effectively reduce various parameters. The method includes configuring a calibrated and validated model for a catchment, selecting design criteria for the catchment, and determining design rainfall intensities and storm durations for the catchment. The method further includes displaying virtual simulations for different values of berm height (101) and substrate depth (102), detecting differences between the design criteria and the virtual simulations for the different values of berm height (101) and substrate depth (102), determining optimal values of berm height (101) and substrate depth (102) that improve the design criteria, and applying the design criteria comprising the optimal values of berm height (101) and substrate depth (102) to reduce stormwater runoff volume, runoff peak, and flooding volume of the green roof layers."
