MUMBAI, India, May 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311080200 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Nov. 25, 2023, for 'design and synthesis of novel pyridine derivatives.'

Inventor(s) include Anuradha Mehra; Dr. Rekha Sangwan; Neha Sharma; and Prakhar Kumar Vishwakarma.

The application for the patent was published on May 30, under issue no. 22/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Cancer ranks as the second leading cause of death on a global scale, with approximately 10 million deaths attributed to it in 2020. The burden of cancer is primarily borne by low-and-middle-income countries, where nearly 70% of the cancer-related deaths occurred in the same year. Consequently, there is an urgent demand for improved chemotherapies, and emerging therapies. Pyridine holds a crucial role as a pharmacophore and privileged scaffold in drug discovery, presenting exceptional opportunities to explore its potential as an anticancer agent by targeting various important receptors. The present invention relates to a novel process for the synthesis of novel pyridine derivatives (107) as antineoplastic agents. The synthetic step involves the use of environment friendly solvents and the readily available reactants as well as regents."
