MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007580 A) filed by Dr Jogada Shivakumar, Belgaum, Karnataka, on Jan. 27, for 'design and implementation of automated patient transfer bed in reducing secondary injuries.'

Inventor(s) include Dr Jogada Shivakumar; Aditya Chattarki; Abhishek Betageri; Gajanan Rajgoli; Manjunath Loli; Prof Uttam Koruche; Prof Vinayak Ratan; Dr Ratan Patil; Dr Madhavi Magi; Dr Basavaraj Hubballi; and Prof Vinayak Nannoji.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The Patient Transfer System is a semi-automated mechanical device designed to simplify and improve the process of transferring patients from one bed to another within healthcare facilities. Traditionally, this task requires multiple staff members and significant physical effort, posing risks to both patients and caregivers. This machine addresses this issue by developing a low-cost, portable, and user-friendly solution that enables safe and efficient patient movement. The system consists of a mild steel frame fitted with a roller and belt mechanism, a rack and pinion drive, and caster wheels for mobility. It is powered by 12V DC motors and operated via a toggle switch, with power supplied by a rechargeable 12V lead-acid battery. The roller and belt mechanism facilitates lateral movement of the patient, while the rack and pinion arrangement ensures controlled positioning. Bearings are used to ensure smooth rotation and mechanical efficiency. The Machine is designed using standard and easily available materials, the system emphasizes simplicity, durability, and ease of use. It significantly reduces manual handling, minimizes patient discomfort, and improves operational efficiency in hospitals. This machine demonstrates how basic mechanical principles can be effectively applied to solve real-world problems in the healthcare sector."
