MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511114703 A) filed by IIMT College of Engineering, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Nov. 20, 2025, for 'deep learning based system and method for automated oil spill detection and segmentation.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed is a deep learning based system (100) for automated oil spill detection and segmentation, the system (100) comprising: an input module (102) configured to acquire remote sensing imagery; a preprocessing module (104) coupled to the input module (102), and configured to normalize and calibrate image; a deep learning engine (106) coupled to the preprocessing module (104), and configured to employ an encoder-decoder architecture using Convolution Neural Networks (CNNs), U-net, or transformer based models; a decision fusion layer (108) configured to combine segmentation outputs from multi-modal sources; and an output module that generates georeferenced segmented masks and spill metrics."
