MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122156 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'decentralized health records management using blockchain.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a decentralized health records management system comprising a blockchain network configured to store metadata and access permissions for electronic health records, smart contracts configured to enforce patient-controlled access permissions, an off-chain storage system configured to store medical files linked to the blockchain network through cryptographic references, and a user interface enabling patients to control access permissions through smart contracts. The blockchain network comprises an Ethereum platform (FIG. 1), and smart contracts automatically execute access control functions based on patient-defined permissions. The off-chain storage system comprises an InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), and cryptographic references comprise hash values stored on the blockchain network. The system includes an encryption module configured to encrypt medical files using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption before off-chain storage."
