MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541124402 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'datura oil extract derived silver nanoparticles combined with mupirocin: a novel topical treatment for enhanced repair for burn wounds.'

Inventor(s) include Dr V. Vineeth; Dr Vinay Kumar; Dr Shiny Chrism Queen Nesan G; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a topical bums healing composition comprising silver nanoparticles synthesized using Datura oil extract in combination with mupirocin. The invention provides an eco-friendly, plant-mediated method of silver nanoparticle synthesis, wherein phytochemicals from Datura oil act as reducing and capping agents to yield stable nanoparticles. These nanoparticles are incorporated with mupirocin into a pharmaceutically acceptable base such as ointment, hydrogel, or emulgel. The synergistic interaction between silver nanoparticles and mupirocin enhances antimicrobial efficacy and enhancing antimicrobial activity compared to conventional mupirocin formulations. The formulation reduces required antibiotic dosage, mitigates resistance development and promotes the contraction in bums. The invention is advantageous over prior art by employing Datura oil- mediated nanoparticle synthesis and specific co-formulation with mupirocin for superior bums healing outcomes."
