In one aspect of the solution of the present disclosure, a user equipment receives a configuration from a network device, and the configuration is associated with a PDU set for a data radio bearer (DRB). The user equipment receives a PDU in a PDU set from an upper layer of the user equipment. Based on whether information of the PDU set for the PDU is identified by the user equipment, the user equipment starts a discard timer associated with a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) service data unit (SDU) corresponding to the PDU. In this way, it is determined that which discard timer may be started and when to start the discard timer. Therefore, the performance of communication is improved."
