MUMBAI, India, April 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441074614 A) filed by Kennametal India Ltd., Bangalore, Karnataka, on Oct. 3, 2024, for 'cutting insert.'

Inventor(s) include Yogesh Basavaraju; Poorna Chander Rao Shanthamraju; and Iranna Shidrameshetra.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a cutting insert (10) comprising: a front face (100); a rear face (200); a plurality of side faces (300); an interrupted leading cutting edge (400) at an intersection of the front face (100) with one of the side faces (300), the interrupted leading cutting edge (400) having a length (400L) and comprising a leading cutting unit (410) comprising a cutting edge (420) in a first plane (400P) along a portion of the length (400L) of the interrupted leading cutting edge (400); and a trailing cutting edge (500) comprising a trailing cutting unit (510) present along the side face (300), the trailing cutting unit (510) comprising a cutting edge (520) in a second plane (500P) that is different than the first plane (400P). Also disclosed are cutting tools (2000) and methods of cutting a workpiece."
