MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123422 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 8, 2025, for 'curcuma longa mediated chromium oxide nanoparticles based dental varnish.'

Inventor(s) include Sulochana Govindharaj; Rajeshkumar Shanmugam; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The biocompatibility of Cr203 nanoparticles is an essential parameter for their utilization in different biological systems. The poisonous effects of Cr203 nanoparticles can be reduced by coating or functionalization their surfaces with biogenic materials. The aim of the current research, the chromium oxide nanoparticle based dental varnish was analyzed the efficacy of antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens using agar well diffusion technique. The biogenesis of chromium oxide nanoparticles using Curcuma longa based dental varnish, the analysis the potential of antimicrobial activity in different concentration as (25, 50, & 100 11g/mL) and standard. In minimum inhibitory concentration was analyzed the potential of dental varnish baseo chromium oxide nanoparticles. The synthesized chromium oxide nanoparticles based dental varnish showed the excellent outcomes in antimicrobiaL activity especially in S. aureus,-Lactobaaillus-spc,-and-S-mutans-in-higher-concentration-shown-as-38;-34,-and-JO-mm-in -inhibitorY zone and In MIC analysis shown the excellent in bactericidal concentration. The Cr203 nanoparticle-based dental varnish holds promise as an effective preventive agent in oral healthcare, particularly in combating bacterial infections associated with dental caries and periodontal diseases."
