MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511122583 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'crowd aware smart shopping trolley with real time navigation and item alerts.'
Inventor(s) include Nivedita Sharma; Prof. Harish Nagar; Navneet Kaur; and Dr Rajnee Tripathi.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a crowd-aware smart shopping trolley system designed to optimize in-store navigation and enhance the shopping experience. The trolley is equipped with ultrasonic sensors that detect real-time crowd density around the trolley and transmit the data to a cloud server, which aggregates inputs from multiple trolleys to generate dynamic aisle-wise heatmaps. Based on these heatmaps, the server provides optimal route suggestions to the trolley to help users avoid congested aisles. The system further integrates a mobile application in which shoppers enter their shopping lists. Using geofencing logic and item location mapping, the trolley automatically alerts the user when a listed item is nearby. The system provides real-time guidance, congestion avoidance, and personalized item alerts, thereby improving shopping efficiency and customer satisfaction."
