MUMBAI, India, Aug. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517072884 A) filed by Nippon Steel Corporation, Tokyo, on July 31, for 'continuous casting mold, continuous casting machine, and continuous casting method.'
Inventor(s) include Tsukaguchi Yuichi; Nakano Sho; and Takahira Nobuyuki.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 22, under issue no. 34/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Provided is a continuous casting mold (1) to be applied to a steel continuous casting process that employs mold flux, the continuous casting mold (1) satisfying one or more of the following: [A] the cross-sectional area of a mold cooling water channel in a mold upper portion (21) is smaller than the cross-sectional area of the mold cooling water channel in a mold lower portion (22); [B] the distance between a mold cooling water channel edge and a mold surface in the mold upper portion (21) is less than the distance between the mold cooling water channel edge and the mold surface in the mold lower portion (22); and [C] the thermal conductivity of a mold copper plate in the mold upper portion (21) is greater than the thermal conductivity of the mold copper plate in the mold lower portion (22). Accordingly, a cooling capacity near a molten steel surface, namely the upper mold portion (21), can be increased in comparison with the cooling capacity of the mold lower portion (22). Also provided is a continuous casting method that uses a continuous casting machine provided with the continuous casting mold (1), and that uses, as the mold flux, a mold flux having a crystallization rate that increases when melted and solidified."
The patent application was internationally filed on July 31, 2023, under International application No.PCT/JP2023/027899.
