MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411012846 A) filed by Bennett University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Feb. 22, 2024, for 'contactless user interface for portable computing devices.'
Inventor(s) include Prof. Sanjeev Ratna Singh; and Prof. Tapas Badal.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The disclosure pertains to a revolutionary system for a contactless user interface specifically designed for portable computing devices. The system is anchored by a proximity sensor array, operationally integrated with the portable device, which possesses the acute ability to detect the presence and nuanced movements of a user's hand or fingers within a pre-defined spatial zone. Interlinked with the sensor array is a sophisticated gesture recognition module, which interprets the detected movements as distinct user commands. Said interpreted commands are then relayed to a control unit, which serves as the operational nexus, mapping the user's intended commands to the corresponding functions or applications within the portable computing device. To close the interactive loop, a feedback mechanism is operationally yoked to the control unit. The mechanism is adept at providing multifaceted feedback, such as haptic, auditory, and/or visual, to the user, confirming the successful execution of commands. The contactless interface paradigm not only enhances user convenience and accessibility but also pioneers a new frontier in human-computer interaction for portable computing devices."
