MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122115 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'computational method for analyzing artificial sweetener effects on inflammatory bowel disease.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Venkatraman Manickam; Mr. Keven Chandy Koshy; and Ms. Shreya Chakraborty.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a computer-implemented method (100) for analyzing molecular interactions between artificial sweeteners and inflammatory bowel disease. The method (100) includes collecting (102) inflammatory bowel disease-associated genes from disease gene databases, identifying (104) artificial sweetener targets using compound-target prediction databases, and determining (106) common targets between the inflammatory bowel disease-associated genes and the artificial sweetener targets through comparative analysis. The method (100) further includes constructing (108) a protein-protein interaction network using the common targets via STRING database analysis, validating (110) the protein-protein interaction network by confirming statistical enrichment of protein-protein interactions, performing (112) pathway enrichment analysis on the validated protein-protein interaction network to identify biological processes and signaling pathways, and identifying (116) hub genes within the protein-protein interaction network using network centrality algorithms."
