MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511134320 A) filed by Maharishi Markandeshwar, Ambala, Haryana, on Dec. 31, 2025, for 'composition of nigella sativa oil and method thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Salman Maan; Dr. Mansi Jain; Dr. H. P Suma Sogi; Dr. Reena V. Saini; and Nancy Garg.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention discloses the use of Nigella sativa oil as a novel herbal agent for caries prevention and management. Extracted via Soxhlet solvent extraction, the oil contains thymoquinone and other bioactive compounds with strong antimicrobial properties. In vitro studies demonstrate significant inhibition zones against Streptococcus mutans, comparable to silver diamine fluoride and superior to fluoride varnish. Unlike conventional agents, the formulation does not cause tooth discoloration, making it suitable for anterior teeth and pediatric applications. The solution is prepared as a liquid, varnish, or gel, optionally combined with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers, and optimized at concentrations of 5-10% w/v. It is biocompatible, eco-friendly, and cost-effective, providing rapid microbial inhibition and improved patient compliance. The invention thus offers a safe, effective, and sustainable alternative to conventional caries-preventive agents, aligning with modern trends toward herbal and minimally invasive dentistry."
