MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441039409 A) filed by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on May 20, 2024, for 'composition for fire intumescent coating.'

Inventor(s) include Amrutha MS; Kannan Perumal; and S N Sheshachala.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a composition for fire intumescent coating, said composition comprising: (a) 30 wt.% to 32.5 wt.% of an epoxy resin; (b) 14.5 wt.% to 17 wt.% of a curing agent; (c) 1 wt.% to 1.5 wt.% of an accelerator agent; (d) 0.5 wt.% to 3.5 wt.% of a metal oxides; (e) 1 wt.% to 5 wt.% of a bio wastes; (f) 1 wt.% to 10 wt.% of an acid source; (g) 1 wt.% to 10 wt.% of a blowing agent; (h) 1 wt% to 15 wt% of a carbon source; (i) 1 wt% to 5 wt% of an alkali metal sulphate; (j) 1 wt% to 5 wt% of a metal orthosilicate; and (k) rest being a solvent, wherein the wt.% is based on the total weight of the composition. The bio waste used in the present composition provides the insulating property on heating and gives more adhesion strength in the coating. The composition of the present disclosure has an extraordinary fire resistant characteristics and exhibit several important advantages for use in construction operations and industrial applications."
