MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641062336 A) filed by Adichunchanagiri University; and Adichunchanagiri Institute Of Medical Sciences, Mandya, Karnataka, on May 16, for 'comparison of ultrasound guided bilateral subcostal transversusabdominis plane block and port-site infiltration with ropivacaine in laproscopic cholecystectomy.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Anuj Chettri; and Dr. Sarevesh. B.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Postoperative pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy can slow recovery and increase the need for strong pain medications. This study compared two regional anesthesia techniques ultrasound-guided bilateral subcostal transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block and port-site infiltration using ropivacaine to manage pain effectively. Sixty patients were randomly assigned to either group. Pain levels were measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at multiple time points, along with total opioid use and side effects. The subcostal TAP block group showed significantly lower pain scores at all intervals and reduced opioid consumption compared to the port-site infiltration group. This approach offers a promising way to improve comfort and speed recovery after gallbladder surgery."
