MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611009623 A) filed by Indian Council Of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, on Jan. 30, for 'compact power train for multi-speed agriculture operations in small farms.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Satish Devram Lande; Dr. Pramod Kumar Sahoo; and Dr. Shambhu Singh.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a compact hybrid power transmission system for small agricultural vehicles and prime movers, particularly in the 8-20 HP range. The invention discloses a semi-automatic gearbox combining sliding mesh and constant mesh gear arrangements within a single compact housing to provide extended torque and speed ranges without increasing transmission length. The gearbox includes a primary sliding-mesh transmission with three forward and one reverse gear, integrated with a constant-mesh high/low range selector to deliver six forward and two reverse speeds, including creeper-level speeds for low-speed field operations, without the need for a separate creeper gearbox. The transmission further incorporates an integrated dual-speed Power Take-Off system capable of selectively delivering 540 RPM and 1000 RPM outputs to front and rear PTOs through independent engagement mechanisms. The modular architecture improves implement compatibility, reduces mechanical complexity, minimizes size, noise, and bearing loads, and enhances maneuverability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for compact agricultural machinery."
