MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521085890 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on Sept. 10, 2025, for 'compact portable trolley for transporting dual 20-litre water containers in indian railway passenger coaches.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Rajat Saxena; Dr. Ravi Kant; Dr. Ashish Unnarkat; and Dr. Ojas Satbhai.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This trolley cart is carefully designed to effectively transport water within the railway passenger coaches with easy and safety. It provides a substitute to buying extra plastic bottles once their water is consumed. It gives the option of refilling them in the coach itself through these water trolleys. They are provided with 40 liter capacity that could be easily maneuvered in constrained spaces of Indian railway passenger coaches. The compact design allows easy navigation and wheel brakes are implemented for start-stop and smooth control which is important inside a moving train. The design outlines the ergonomic features such as low-friction wheels, proper handles to minimize physical strain and risk of injuries associated with lifting heavy bottles/ buckets. Another significant impact is on reducing the use of multiple plastic bottles. The design is easy, modular and cost effective, with easy repair in case of breakage etc. This further adds to the sustainability quotient."
