MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541125354 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 11, 2025, for 'compact multiport antenna system for non-invasive biological sample imaging.'

Inventor(s) include Priyanka Das; Jayanth S B; and Surya T.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an antenna-based system (100) for real-time non-invasive quality assessment of biological samples using microwave imaging. The system (100) includes an antenna array (102) that emits and receives microwave signals. The antenna array (102) includes multiple radiating elements (102-2) on a flexible felt substrate. The antenna array (102) includes Frequency-Selective Surfaces (FSS) strategically placed between radiating elements to reduce mutual coupling and achieve about -25 dB inter-element isolation. A central ground plane (102-10) enhances port isolation and structural integrity. The system (100) includes a motorized translation stage (104) with a servo motor that allows movement over a defined scan area on biological samples. A microcontroller (106) drives the servo motor along a selectable path. The system (100) includes a vector network analyzer (108) that records the reflection coefficient at various scan positions for real-time permittivity mapping of the samples across the specified frequency range."
