MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641048985 A) filed by Nitte, Mangaluru, Karnataka, on April 17, for 'colon-targeted biotherapeutic composition for gut microbiota restoration and preparation method thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is a colon-targeted biotherapeutic composition (100), the composition (100) comprises a freeze-dried multi-functional microbial consortium (102) configured to perform butyrate production, bile acid transformation, and mucosal colonization, a plurality of cryoprotectants (104) configured to preserve microbial viability during lyophilization, a plurality of excipients (106) configured to stabilize the composition (100) and enhance delivery, a pH-responsive polymer (108) configured to enable site-specific release in the colon for restoring gut microbiota balance. The composition (100) may include the freeze-dried multi-functional microbial consortium (102) comprises 5 to 30 bacterial species including a plurality of butyrate-producing anaerobes (110), a plurality of bile acid-transforming bacteria (112), and a plurality of mucosal-associated anaerobes (114). The composition (100) may include the plurality of butyrate-producing anaerobes (110) comprises Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Roseburia spp. The composition (100) may include the plurality of bile acid-transforming bacteria (112) comprises Clostridium spp., Bacteroides spp."
