MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122917 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'cold-active lipase from streptomyces roseofulvus and production method.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. M. Kavitha; and Ms. Shalini. M.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a cold-active lipase enzyme produced by Streptomyces roseofulvus ISKVIT1, wherein the cold-active lipase enzyme maintains catalytic activity at 10 C. The method (100) for producing the cold-active lipase enzyme includes collecting freshwater samples from an environmental source in step (102), isolating Streptomyces roseofulvus ISKVIT1 from the freshwater samples using serial dilution technique in step (104), screening the isolated Streptomyces roseofulvus ISKVIT1 for lipase activity using tributyrin agar medium in step (106), optimizing medium components for lipase production using statistical methods in step (114), and purifying the lipase enzyme using ammonium sulfate precipitation in step (116). The cold-active lipase enzyme exhibits optimal activity at pH 7, demonstrates enhanced activity in the presence of Fe3+ metal ions, and exhibits antibiofilm activity against Streptococcus mutans with statistically significant inhibition."
