MUMBAI, India, Oct. 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517092548 A) filed by Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., Shanghai, on Sept. 26, for 'coated ultrahigh-strength steel with excellent spot welding performance and manufacturing method therefor.'

Inventor(s) include Pan, Hua; Lei, Ming; Wang, Li; Gong, Tao; and Jiang, Haomin.

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 10, under issue no. 41/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed in the present invention is coated ultrahigh-strength steel with excellent spot welding performance, comprising a steel substrate and a zinc-containing coating on the surface of the steel substrate. The steel substrate contains Fe and inevitable impurity elements. The steel substrate further contains the following chemical elements in percentage by mass: 0.10-0.22% of C, 0.30-0.79% of Si, 1.00-2.50% of Mn, 0.50-5.00% of Cr, and 0.03-1.0% of Al. Correspondingly, further disclosed in the present invention is a manufacturing method for the coated ultrahigh-strength steel. The coated ultrahigh-strength steel of the present invention can be effectively prepared by using the manufacturing method, and when a final finished product of the coated ultrahigh-strength steel is welded by means of a spot welding process, if a joint surface crack is generated, the maximum depth of the joint surface crack is smaller than 5% of the plate thickness."

The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 26, 2024, under International application No.PCT/CN2024/083714.
