MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541125234 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Madras; and Sujay Biotech Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 11, 2025, for 'clay-biopolymer composite hydrogels.'
Inventor(s) include Ranga Rao Gangavarapu; Soniya Mariya Varghese; Additi Roy Chowdhury; and Nidhi Murali.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure generally pertains to the field of polymer-based hydrogel technology. In particular, the present disclosure pertains to clay-biopolymer composite hydrogels and a process for its preparation. The hydrogel of the present disclosure slowly releases clay into arid 5 soil on decomposition, thus improving the water holding capacity of the soil. The hydrogel of the present disclosure provides a safe way of enriching agricultural soil."
