MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641050506 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, on April 21, for 'cenosphere incorporated cement concrete solar roof tiles.'
Inventor(s) include P. Velmurugan; M. N. A. Gulshan Taj; R. Malathy; and Dr. S. R. R. Senthil Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a cement concrete solar roof tile incorporating cenospheres for passive thermal management and enhanced photovoltaic performance. The solar roof tile comprises a cementitious tile body and a photovoltaic module mounted thereon, wherein cenospheres are dispersed within a cement matrix as a partial replacement for cement. The cenospheres are hollow aluminosilicate microspheres having low thermal conductivity, which reduces heat transfer from the tile body to the photovoltaic module. As a result, the operating temperature of the photovoltaic module is lowered, leading to improved electrical energy generation during solar exposure. The tile is manufactured by dry mixing cement and cenospheres, adding aggregates and water, casting the mixture into a mould, compacting, and curing to form a thermally insulating substrate. The invention provides a lightweight, maintenance-free, and sustainable solar roofing solution suitable for building-integrated photovoltaic applications, particularly in high-temperature and high-irradiance environments."
