MUMBAI, India, Aug. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517051942 A) filed by Abec, Inc., Bethlehem, U.S.A., on May 29, for 'cell culture bioreactor with rotational mixing.'

Inventor(s) include Pundsack, Andrew Michael; and Rech, Rosane.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 22, under issue no. 34/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A cell culture bioreactor has hollow fiber membranes within an extra-capillary space optionally used to grow cells in suspension. The membranes may include liquid perfusion membranes and/or gas transfer membranes. Liquid medium moves within the extra-capillary space relative to the membranes. The bioreactor may be rotated clockwise and counter- clockwise in a repeated pattern around an axis of rotation passing through the bioreactor. The axis of rotation may be horizontal, pass trough the center of the bioreactor and/or be perpendicular to the membranes. The rotation pattern may include 5 or more reversals of direction and/or decelerations and acceleration (optionally stops and re-starts) in one direction per minute. The bioreactor my be rotated through less than 360 degrees of rotation in one direction and then through less than 360 degrees in the opposite direction. The rotation of the bioreactor may reach a speed in the range of 1 to 25 rpm."

The patent application was internationally filed on Oct. 18, 2023, under International application No.PCT/CA2023/051381.
