MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411097074 A) filed by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Dec. 9, 2024, for 'catalyst composition for co-processing syngas and bio-oils for sustainable fuel production.'

Inventor(s) include Vankayala, Rakesh; Upadhyayula, Sreedevi; Chebrolu, Seetaram; Rakshit, Pranab Kumar; and Racha, Arundhathi.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a catalyst capable of simultaneously processing diverse feedstocks, including gaseous and biologically derived materials, to produce hydrocarbons. The catalyst comprises active metals such as cobalt or iron, supported on materials like gamma-alumina, zeolite, or silicon dioxide, and incorporates promoters like Nickel, potassium, molybdenum, Manganese, Chromium, Copper and /or platinum to enhance performance and stability. It facilitates key reactions, including Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis, hydrotreated esters and fatty acids (HEFA) reactions, deoxygenation, oligomerization, hydrogenation, and cracking. The catalyst is versatile, allowing the production of hydrocarbons with optimized selectivity for higher-carbon-number molecules like diesel and aviation fuels. It can be employed in fixed-bed, slurry, CSTRs or fluidized-bed reactors and is compatible with varied feedstocks, ensuring continuous operation despite seasonal or geographic variations. This invention supports sustainable fuel production by reducing CO2 emissions and integrating renewable and carbon-neutral feedstocks, contributing to global efforts in achieving environmentally sustainable energy solutions."
